The three functions of incense
FUNCTIONS OF INCENSE
The incense has three functions that are linked to different scent families. The aromatherapy school and modern studies show that natural scents affect humans through our nervous system and thus have the ability to create different moods within us. The list below is applicable both in incense and aromatherapy with essential oils.
Foundation, second and create stability
In this category we find the woody scents of Sandalwood, Palo Santo and Copal. Fragrances that help us get in touch with mother earth and that establish, stabilize and create a safe space.
Emotional love, balance and healing
In the second category we find the floral scents of jasmine, rose and lavender which all help to create emotional balance, to communicate feelings and to heal emotional wounds.
Higher consciousness, creativity, intuition and universal connection
In the third category we find the more herbal scents that enhance our creativity, intuition and higher consciousness. Eucalyptus, bay leaves and rosemary have been used for this since ancient times and help us get in touch with our creative flow while strengthening memory. In this category we also find the Frankincense and Yagra trees with their citrusy and uplifting notes.
